Alex Qu

Alex Qu is a New York–based filmmaker and creative technologist working across AI-assisted visual development, virtual production, and real-time 3D storytelling. She is pursuing an MPS in Virtual Production at NYU Tisch (expected May 2026), with training in narrative development, producing, on-set workflow, art direction, and post-production. She previously earned a BFA in Dramatic Literature at Shanghai Theatre Academy, focusing on screenwriting, story adaptation, script analysis, and directing.

She has also worked across industry-facing roles:

-Shanghai International Film Festival — Venture Capital Program Support- Screened and evaluated film projects submitted to the festival's incubation pipeline, assessing narrative viability, commercial potential, and producer track record. Supported investor outreach and financing strategy for shortlisted projects, contributing to capital formation across early-stage development. Assisted in monitoring portfolio growth milestones and coordinating across stakeholders throughout the incubation cycle.

-Real Power Capital (Shanghai Ruili Investment Culture Co.) — Project & Investment Intern- Conducted market analysis on AI-integrated live performance projects across Chinese cities, evaluating box office pricing structures, technical production models, and operator credibility to surface actionable investment signals. Researched China's anime and gaming sectors, authoring internal business reports on IP licensing trends and investment opportunities to inform deal sourcing and strategic positioning.

-Linmon Pictures — Copyright & IP Development- Assessed literary and dramatic properties for screen adaptation potential, analyzing story architecture, audience positioning, and rights availability. Participated in acquisition decisions and supported copyright negotiations. Contributed to development conversations bridging source material with production-ready formats, working at the intersection of story evaluation and business affairs.

-SMG Pictures & Wings Media — Video Content Coordination- Oversaw social media strategy and execution for theatrical and streaming releases, developing platform-specific content that aligned with each title's marketing campaign. Cut promotional materials — including trailers, short-form clips, and campaign assets — and managed publishing cadence to drive audience engagement and momentum around release windows.

Tools include Unreal Engine, Maya, Runway, and Adobe Premiere Pro. She has a particular focus on generative image and video workflows — building prompt systems, testing outputs, and integrating AI tools into practical production pipelines.
